NOVEMBER 2020 - CHARCOAL GRAY
we're in the heart of fall, with winter still over a month away. As we get deeper into the season, those brilliant bright leaves will slowly start to fade away and transition the world around us into a more muted palette. The closer we get to winter, nature gives us much more deep, moody tones to work with. This transition into the colder months is the inspiration behind November's Color of the Month-meet Charcoal Gray!
Charcoal is a fantastic option for those looking for a neutral color that is anything but boring. While many neutrals can feel flat, Charcoal Gray has a depth to it that can make it feel both dramatic and relaxing at the same time. This softer version of black can have a range of shades with slightly different undertones, ranging from brown or green to a true neutral. The shade you choose will largely be dependent on the lighting in the room-the undertones will show up more or less based on the light.
When creating a palette to work with your favorite shade of Charcoal, you'll want to consider the overall feeling you want to create in the space. To keep that cool neutral vibe, pair it with other cool colors like blue, lavender, green, and crisp white. If you want to bring out a warmer look, choose contrasting colors such as pink, orange, and yellow. Of course, you can never go wrong with a crisp, bright white as an accent-it's a classic pairing that will never go out of style!
When working with Charcoal Gray as a wall color, it can be great for a small powder room, but works best in larger spaces like a living room. If you plan on using Charcoal as an allover wall color, you want to make sure your room has plenty of natural light, or enough of the right type of artificial light. This will help make sure the room doesn't end up feeling too small and closed in. While Charcoal can seem like a more edgy choice for the walls in your room, it's important to note that this neutral shade can actually have a calming effect. When you use this shade the right way, you won't have to worry about your space feeling dull or depressing.
Of course, Charcoal isn't just for the inside of your home! This gorgeous gray works beautifully as an allover color for your home's exterior. When paired with bright white trim and a pop of color on your front door, Charcoal Gray will instantly give your home a sophisticated, modern look with a ton of curb appeal.
