Grounded Brown - The rich Espresso shade

WOW 1 Day Painting - Color of the Month - Grounded Brown - Sherwin-Williams

Chocolate mousse. Coffee. Louis Vuitton. Leather. Mahogany. Brown has become the color of luxury. It’s even Pantone’s color of the year this year.

When you want a neutral that still has some attitude, brown paint colors are the way to go. They are sophisticated and pair beautifully with almost every shade.

We love this espresso paint color from Sherwin-Williams, SW6089 Grounded. It has a warm, red undertone, is rich without being too dark and will cozy up any room in your house.

Are brown walls in style?

Designers are predicting “Quiet Luxury Brown” to be one of the year's most popular color palates. It complements natural materials like wood floors, stone countertops, leather couches, exposed brick and other elements around the home.

With such a deep wall color, light neutrals stand out—think taupe couch, grey cabinets, and white fixtures.

Is brown a timeless color?

It’s earthy and refined. It’s cozy but doesn’t feel rustic. What’s interesting about coffee brown tones is it has many of the timeless qualities of taupe but offers you so much more.

Shades like Grounded are incredibly versatile.

It pairs just as well with traditional damask patterns as it does with midcentury modern furniture. Elevated, sophisticated and energizing.

What is the most complementary color to brown?

When choosing complementary colors for brown, there are a couple options. The easiest is high contrast. This can include true neutral colors like white, taupe or grey, but it can also include bright and vibrant colors like greens, blues, oranges and yellows.

Another way to find complementary colors is to look at the undertones in the brown. In the case of Grounded, red is the main undertone, so we can look at analogous colors in the red family: terracotta, beige, brick red or rust.

Should I go cool brown or warm brown?

If you like Grounded, it’s certainly a warm brown with slight red undertones but that doesn’t mean it won’t work with other cool tones like blue or green—quite the contrary.

Much like choosing other neutrals, you want to choose a color temperature that compliments the room it’s in. For example, if your room gets lots of warm natural light, you might want to choose a cooler brown to help neutralize the warmth. But if you have a room without windows and lots of artificial light, a warmer brown can help balance the color scheme.
